According to Mahayana Buddhist tradition, Samantabhadra is the primordial Bodhisattva and the manifestation of the Dharmakaya, the spiritual body of the Buddha. The name Samantabhadra is derived from the Sanskrit words samanta, meaning "all-pervading" and bhadra, meaning "auspiciousness." Samantabhadra is often depicted seated on an elephant, an animal traditionally associated with wisdom and royalty. Samantabhadra is believed to have vowed to protect and lead sentient beings to enlightenment through the practice of the six perfections, which include giving, morality, patience, effort, concentration, and wisdom. Through the practice of these perfections, Samantabhadra is said to be able to lead all beings to Buddhahood.
